In comics' decade or two of Art-status there have been so many cheeky "guides" written for the neophyte that it can be difficult to find intelligent, critical discussions of the form. Well, here are two excellent pamphlets about the noble art of comics-making that are just that: one by Dan Clowes and another by Kevin Huizenga. Art Spiegelman's pieces for the New Yorker offer looks into particular creators and work as seen from a recognized old master. Taking it to another level altogether is this dense series, learned archaeology into four select corners of the comics world by Daniel Raeburn. I hope someone enjoys this assemblage as much as I have.
